What If the Life You’ve Been Living Is Only Part of the Story?
Introducing "Unseen" — A 21-Day Journey Through What Jesus Reveals
There’s a version of life most of us are living without ever deciding to.
It goes something like this: what’s real is what’s in front of me. What matters is what I can see, touch, measure, and manage. And if God exists somewhere in the margins of all that — well, He can fit around the edges of the life I’m already running.
Nobody chooses this version consciously. It just happens. Quietly. Gradually. The way you don’t notice the sun rising until everything is already lit differently and you wonder how it got so bright.
But what if that version of life — the one built entirely on what you can see and control — is only half the story? What if there’s a larger world just on the other side of a door you haven’t fully opened yet?
That’s the question at the heart of a new 21-day devotional series launching here on This Is The Way.
Unseen
I haven’t written anything new since Easter and the end of the “That First Easter - I Was There” devotional. We’ve been busy selling our home in Colorado and moving to Missouri. I’ll write some more about that in the weeks ahead but for now, I want to introduce my newest devotional, “Unseen.”
Most of us have been living unseen — unmoored, going through the motions, carrying the quiet suspicion that there has to be more than this but not quite sure where to look. And at the same time, most of us have been missing something. A reality that has been there all along, just beyond the edge of what we’ve been willing to see.
Jesus came to change both of those things.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus does something remarkable. He doesn’t just talk about God — He reveals Him, His mission, and how we fit into evertyhing He is doing. He doesn’t just point toward a larger reality — He pulls back the curtain on it. He doesn’t just offer information about who we are — He shows us, with a specificity that stops you cold if you let it.
Unseen is an invitation to let Him do that for you.
What the Journey Looks Like
Over 21 days — three weeks, nine main topics, three Sabbath reflections — we’ll follow Jesus as He reveals dimensions of a reality most of us have only partially glimpsed.
Week 1 — There Is More (from asleep to awake) We start where most of us actually are: living in a flattened, physical-only world. Week 1 pulls back the curtain on a larger reality. Jesus reveals the Father — not the God of your assumptions or your wounds, but the real one. He reveals who He Himself is — not a teacher or a moral guide, but something far more startling. And He reveals the Kingdom — an alternative reality, coexisting with the one you can see, with its own values, its own citizenship, and a choice at its center.
Week 2 — You Are Seen (from anonymous to known) This is where it gets personal. Week 2 moves from cosmic truth to the specific, unmistakable reality of you. Jesus reveals what humans were actually designed to be — not what the world has made of us, but what God had in mind. He reveals who you are in Him. And He reveals the one who lives within, the Holy Spirit — the one who ensures you are never navigating any of this alone.
Week 3 — Now Live Differently (from doom to destiny) Armed with identity and relationship, Week 3 asks: so what now? Jesus reveals the way of salvation — the door that is open. He reveals the enemy — not to frighten you, but to show you that as someone God delights in, you are not without help, armor, or hope. And He reveals the future — the one you were actually made for.
Who This Is For
Honestly? It’s for anyone who suspects there’s more to life than what they can see, touch, and manage.
Maybe you’re new to faith and still finding your footing. Maybe you’ve been a Christian for years but somewhere along the way the relationship went flat and the motions of life took over. Maybe you’re at the threshold — curious, maybe skeptical, not sure what you believe but willing to look.
This series was written for all of you. It doesn’t assume you have everything figured out. It assumes you’re willing to open the door and see what the light is.
That’s enough. That’s always been enough.
