Fishin’ Is Better With a Buddy
Notes on Fishing for Men
“Fish with a buddy — it’s nice to have someone to grab the net.”
I genuinely enjoy fishing alone. There’s something restorative about it — the quiet, the rhythm, the time to think. But honest assessment? My solo trips are rarely my most productive. I’m limited by what two hands can do. I can’t troll and fish at the same time. And when something goes sideways — which it always does eventually — I’m on my own.
Bring a friend, and everything changes. Here’s what I’ve learned:
When you get a big one, they can grab the net. When you’re stuck in the weeds, they can help paddle. When nothing in your box is working, you can borrow something. When you’re in unfamiliar territory, you’re not alone. When you hit a snag, you’ve got an extra set of hands. When one gets away, at least you have a witness. And I can tell you from experience — I rarely laugh when I’m fishing alone.
Evangelism works the same way.
God rarely uses just one person to bring someone from where they are all the way to faith. More often, He orchestrates a series of people, circumstances, and events — each one playing a part, none of them seeing the whole picture. One plants. One waters. God gives the growth. There’s a beautiful synergy in that — 1+1 becomes more than 2 when the Spirit is in the math.
“What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” — 1 Corinthians 3:5-6 (ESV)
You don’t have to be the one who closes the deal. You just have to show up, do your part, and trust that God has others working the same water.
So grab your fishin’ buddy and do a little tag-team evangelism.
